On the donor sierra there is a plastic bush which lives in that hole. You can get them from MNR
Here <- Scroll to the bottom.
I am not too sure if it will pass without? To be honest, for £4 + Postage, etc... I wouldn't risk it.

for welshboy
Is how I did it on the Indy.
New bush cost a couple of quid from Robin Hood at a show.

Initially I used a bush but it was binding very slightly and made the steering very notchy. I replaced it with a spherical bearing and it is silky
smooth now.
Cheers,
Raz
When thinking outside the box doesn't work any more, it's time to build a new box

It is IMO designed to slide over the shaft in case of collision.
So if it can there is no problem to replace it with something else.
Please feel free to correct my bad English, i'm still learning. Your Dutch is awfull! :-)

As I remember, the ford bush expects to be fitted in a thicker bulkhead and perpendicular to the shaft - I made up a bracket as shown by the thick
black line. The springy washerery thing goes down on top of the bush to prevent the inner bush bit migrating up the shaft.
