Where can I get my wheels chromed?
Hi folks,
I have a set of 4 Ford Minilite wheels (I think they are steel) which are in a bit of a sorry state as the chrome which was last on them has dimpled
and flaked off etc. Can anyone recommend a good place to get them taken back and re-chromed, preferably in the north west?
Thanks,
Matt

Not quite right geographically, but i can thoroughly recommend Midas Touch in Castleford West Yorks, He's called Trev 01977 604040.
No connection other than being a satisfied customer. he does the lot BTW blasting, chrome. polishing, gold plating etc and the prices are right.

If the wheels are steel I doubt they are Minilites? They could be Rostyles? Similar to some MGBs ? possibly from a 1600e. Can ally wheels be chromed
successfully ?

Ford steel minilites? Thats a new one to me.You don't mean RoStyles as originally fitted to Mk2 Cortina 1600Es do you? They are the only chromed
Ford steel wheels I am aware of,then again someone might know different.
Not unless you are talking about Tinilites as fitted to Mk3 Cortina E models, but those were not chromed-just painted silver and black.

wheel chroming
Hi there just for your interest i spoke to a chap who builds custom cars about wheel chroming and he strongly advised me not to as you will always
have problems,i think if you have minilight wheels they are most probly ali wheels, i dont think minilight made a steel wheel in that pattern.
the problem you got is ali has got a high corrosion factor and they need to be kept clean ALL THE TIME, and even then the chrome plating is still
going to flake due to the nature of there job acting as a wheel. hope this helps.

Matt,
Try these guys:
www.thewheelspecialist.co.uk
They're based off the M60 in Manchester and did a great job of my alloys (I had them finished in gloss black and they look fantastic). You can
get a quote off the website but the best bet is to give them a call and discuss what you want doing?
I struggled to get to the factory to drop off the wheels so Derek came to pick them up from my house one evening.
Good, quick and friendly service.

Just to let you know, i think my wheels are magnesium and not steel like I said before, how wrong I was!
