carb balance davida

hi all i spent most of last sunday ajusting the balance on my firebalde carbs.

ive been using the carb tune tool (mercury).
problem im getting is i get the mercury to line up in all four tubes, then rev it up couple of times let it idle .i would be expecting the mercury to still all line up but they dont there all different levels no leaks in the pipes although i do need to check ive got all the washers on the end of the spigots (adapters)

i was thinking of buying a decent set of gauges (davida) or borrow some there expensive at £95.00 .

thanks simon

I would be wary about buying those if the picture is anything to go by. They are all open to atmosphere and read differently.
Were yours all zeroed correctly when you got them?

Haven't got a clue if they were zeroed or not before I bought them - I gave them to a mate of mine who prepares and races historics and the like to "balance" for me before I used them, but I grant you, I haven't used them since, so there is a chance that they may be out of balance again?

If the pressure on each mercury column is the same then they must be aligned.
Mercury columns are more reliable than vacuum gauges.

Trust me I calibrate this sort of thing for a living.

The main thing with mercury gauges is to make sure that there are no air bubbles in the tubes - this will make the levels differ when open to atmosphere. Then, so long as the tubes are level then they should be more accurate than gauges as Neil mentioned.
