Has my column collapsed?

I hadn't paid much attention to the column since stripping the donor car last year. However, this evening I started cleaning up the column and saw that it was quite different to the one in the Haynes manual (haynes show's like a concertina).

in short.... has it collapsed???

Advice appreciated... Rescued attachment P1010007_small.JPG

Looks the same as mine apart from the welded washer in front of the spring is up inside the concertina bit.

the collapsable part is the spring part.

Also its the part where the triangle tube is the inner tube of the outer tube, in a accident that tube will slide further into the other tube.

Tks
