1300 diff on a 1600 xflow
first post so hi all..
any comments on this... im rebuilding a robin hood s7 and basically it had a dolly 1850 rear axle, with a ford 4 speed and 1600 xflow... the
performance was ok, nothing outstanding, the car weighs 540kg so its a light one compared with RHE's later efforts.
I have changed the rear axle for a toledo 1300, visually identical, and basically the car is being totally rebuilt by me so its in a unroadworthy
state - so the only driving ive done is up the road and back, will the diff cope with the power? it spins very easily in first now, and 'giving
it some' in first pins you back in the seat... thats what i wanted, anybody have any experiences of a similar setup???
presumably the acceleration should be good now, and im happy to lose top speed for that.

Hi Paul - welcome to the site!
I got a 1300 Escort axle in a locost, with a 1660 XFlow, and its luvverly!
Like you said, acceleration is brill, top speed...well, i've never had it above 105 to find out if the gearings wrong!! Its well bouncy, and
with no screen onlya helmet, you cant see either!
I found better tyres really did stop the spinning (although its less impressive!!), but this probably increases the pressure on the diff.
Anyone broke one?!

cant see why it would kill the diff as its mechanically the same as any toher just using different gearing - its not like it will be more brittle or
whatever i wouldnt of thought ( am i answering my own question here?!!)
Its a serious case of i wish i didnt dismantle all of the car at once so i could give it a blast - i can get away with going up and down the road but
thats it! got alot of work to do but bring on summer 2004!!

I had a std 1300 escort rear axel set up in my 1700 x/flow escort, I never had any probs, but I also never saw the other side of 100 mph !! . I just
made sure i never launched it from stand still to be safe. A locost probably weighs less than half ? an escort so I doubt it would be a problem

im really not fussed about going over say 80mph in this ... its not really the car for all out speed is it! if i want to fly through 100 and onwards
ill use my normal car i reckon!!!
i hit 90 in it with the old setup and it wasnt the safest feeling!!!
