Any Wheel Track / Handling Guru's Out There?

I was modifying the toe in angle & caber angle on my car on the weekend, and noticed that my front Track is 80mm narrower than the rear.

What effects will this have on handling?

80mm seems quite a lot to me.

In essence what you get from a narrower track is:

Too narrow a rear track, the car tends to oversteer.
Too narrow a front track, the car tends to understeer.

Yeah, its because i had to fit some spacers on the rear to clear some suspesion bits, and forgot all about the front

I need to make some new front wishbones to increase my castor angle (want to try to make them adjustable if posible) so may as well lengthen themwhile i'm doing it.

You won't get the same effect from making your wishbones longer as you will from adding spacers to wheels.

I'm not sure I'd go about it this way.

Assuming you have Sierra type running gear then the front is traditionally 1" narrower than the rear I believe.

Suspension theory is complex... I know I don't understand most of it... so mess around at your peril!

Spacers on the front can have guite a big impact on handling and car and steering feel and can be a good or a bad thing depending on their impact on scrub radius so a bit of research is appropriate before using them.

On my SSI the front track matches the rear - it's one of a few key differences between it and a standard SS - the others being bodywork, IRS, rear disks and a few other things.

Apparently it was done to improve top end stability (according to one of the other 5 owners - who heard it from Jim Dudley) - but I've always wondered why this was a key concern on a 7 and what the negative effects might be on the twisties. I've posted before about my tyres - but I wonder if this setup increases oversteer?

See pic - mine's the red one. Notice the difference in the angle of the top WB between mine and Nigel's blue one (both are factory built).

Track has much less effect on handling & road holding than you might think.
