steering rack grease
Just a quick one (ooer missus!)
What grease should one use in one's steering rack?
Cheers
Chris
Note to all: I really don't know when to leave well alone. I tried to get clever with the mods, then when they gave me a lifeline to see the
error of my ways, I tried to incite more trouble via u2u. So now I'm banned, never to return again. They should have done it years ago!

Medium Density Oil - not Grease as described in the Haynes Manual. Too thick and you cant set the load correctly Chris.
IIRC - a 5Nm load is required on the drive spline (Steering Column connection) to move the rack.

Not really critical -- an gear oil or a cheap 20w/40 engine oil --- don't put too much in.

Trick with setting the damper load is check pinion still turns freely at both full locks -- not just in the teeth around straight ahead position
which gets more wear..
