Contents insurance at Uni?
My son is off to Uni b4 too long (little b*gger only got into Cambridge to read veterinary medecine for 6 years - proud dad or what!!!) & is
trying to arrange contents cover for stuff in his room whilst there. We've googled it & came up with a no. of providers, just wondered if
anyone had any recommendations for good service/price etc.
I no longer run Furore Products or Furore Cars Ltd, but would still highly recommend them for Acewell dashes, projector headlights, dominator
headlights, indicators, mirrors etc, best prices in the UK! Take a look at http://www.furoreproducts.co.uk/ or find more parts on Ebay, user names
furoreltd & furoreproducts, discounts available for LCB users.
Don't forget Stainless Steel Braided brake hoses, made to your exact requirements in any of around 16 colours.

How about extending your house contents insurance to cover him?

Its a while since I was at uni but insurance was very expensive. I doubt its got cheaper. I lived in a nice town too. Some house hold insurance
will cover things at uni. Some have cover away from home for a certain time. May cover the first term.
Is veterinary science still a 3 As entry subject? He's done well then.

'Proud Dad' soon to be 'poor Dad' I imagine .
As above, try your home contents provider first - they will often cover you for no / little extra. Otherwise Endsleigh are probably a reasonable bet,
they tend to specialise in cover for students.

My son's off to uni in September and his accommodation fee in halls covers up to £4000 of stuff - it would be worth checking whether your son
already has some cover. One of the exclusions is for stuff taken out of the room (e.g. laptop) so you might want to check if your household insurance
either covers him, or can be extended to cover him, for those things.

We extended our cover to Personal Possesions with direct line. They said everything would be insured for any type of loss. Dont know how good it is as
we have not had to claim for the kids. When I dropped my new camera they could not fix it and we got a new one.

Our halls came with basic cover in with, and i didnt purchase any additional.
- We tried to get whole-house cover last year (four freinds, shared short term tenacy agreement) and found no where would do it as we wernt a family
(not shit) bar one we didnt really follow up, best induvidual policy price was ensleigh. IN the end with where uninsured for the year.
May well do the same again this year.
Tbh, my destops works sod all, push bikes got its own cover, telly/dvd/etc is all of ebay and totals around £60 anyway. Clothes? Odds and ends. £200
rc car is hidden. Job done.

i used cover 4 students last year.
was about £65 for about 5k of cover including a £600 laptop. laptop was covered for damage/theft anywhere, any time as was digital camera etc etc.
it was also all covered against walk in burglary which seemed prudent since you can't trust everyone to lock the doors everytime.
for the same from endsleigh was about £100. imho, they're the biggest rip off on the market for any kind of insurance.

Halls are usually covered by your household insurance, but obviously double check. Once he's out of halls and into a shared house it all changes
though, household insurance won't cover it unless he can independently lock his room, if at all.
I never had trouble getting contents insurance when I was at uni, but I couldn't tell you who I used. I can barely remember what happened

Used cover for students and brother uses endsleigh... never had a problem with either. Brother has had some claims and all seem to have been sorted
well.
Neither stung us too much.
Be careful with what is covered on the extension of your home policy!!
Also think about the 'no claims' side of it, its probably easier to have a seperate policy for him so it doesnt whack up yours if he
claims!

Thanx for all the useful info, as ever, guys.
BTW they actually required 4 x "A" grades for him to get in!!!

I didn't bother with insurance at uni, but then i didn't have anything of serious value, even my lappy was pretty old. We also lived in a
very posh area people owned aston martins and there was a communal garden with a fountain etc. I used to get bollocked by my housemates for leaving
windows etc open as they all had insurance but it wouldn't cover them if the window was open!
In fact I still don't have contents insurance, should really get round to it. But We still don't have anything of really high value.
