what brakes do i want?
up front, at the moment, i've got standard uprights, calipers and discs from a bedford midi. if they're good for a van, they should be
fine for my car i'd think.
discs are vented, calipers are the single piston slidey type, like sierra ones
what do i want on the rear? should i go for sierra jobbies on the back with solid discs?
ideally i want wilwood calipers all round. but to start with whats the thought on sierra rear calipers and bedford van ones up front?
i don't think it makes any difference, but is there any preference for calipers on the rear being mounted on the front or the rear of the axle?
i'm just thinking for when i do come to switch over, i can just weld on new mount brackets, rather than cuting off the old ones.

eventuallly i'll get the big racing discs and calipers on the front, and the wilwood hand brake calipers on the back, but i guess what i'm
really asking is are sierra rear calipers going to be a decent match with the bedofrd front calipers?

With your weight distribution the rear brakes only need to do less than 25% of the work of the fronts.
Two main things that dictate how much " bite " your brakes can produce are the disc diameter (more accurately the radius at which the
pads grip the disc) and capiler piston area (ie the area of caliper piston(s) acting on one side of the disc).
With standard Sierra discs and calipers If you use EscortMK3/Sierra solid front discs on the with Sierra rear calipers then you will probably find you
have slightly too rear bias.
If you upgrade the front brakes and need more rear brakes then MGTF rear calipers have much greater piston area than Sierra rears.

So measure the diameter of the Bedford caliper pistons. Istr Sierra ones are 2" (52mm)

actually, maybe i won't look right now... too much work taking the body back off, wheels off etc for this time of night. i'll check
tomorrow.
so, am i right to think, i should be looking for the front piston to be a little bigger diameter, bigger diameter disc (which it will be) and
different size MC would help.
