BEC gear lever/knob fitting
nick205 - 19/11/08 at 09:34 AM

A question for the BEC fraternity...

For those that have a gear lever (I know some use paddle shift set-ups instead) do you have a seperate gear knob fitted or simply just a lever?

If you have a knob fitted is it threaded, grub screwed, clamped...?

Cheers for any info you can provide!

Nick

mine is screwed on gear knob by worx

Mr Whippy - 19/11/08 at 09:57 AM

isn't it just a matter of taste? if you want one then why not simply fit it...all depends on where you are holding the lever when you drive the car, if its at the end and you are hurting your hand then stick a knob on the end that what their for after all.

Was trying to judge the market before announcing my plans, but TBH better to anounce then judge I guess!

Mine will be grub screwed on when fitted

Kriss - 19/11/08 at 01:36 PM

My mates Megabusa is a rich brook, tall skinny item which I am sure just screws on.

think length is the main requirement on them!

Hi,

Mine sits on a threaded bar, and is made from a milled lump of alu that has been tapped to take the threaded bar. Very solid, and looks good too.

Mine is a long thin one (oo-er) same as what Car Builder Solutions sell IIRC.

3 grub screws hidden under a threaded cover.

They usually come with a few different plastic sleeves as well if your shaft isn't thick enough to take your knob (oh dear!)

McLannahan - 19/11/08 at 08:41 PM

My knob (smirk) is another Worx special.

It's treaded and has a nice solid feel to it like Dangle's (also made by Steve I think?)

Mine's been lightened for those crucial seconds. No doubt the holes take off at least 3 seconds. I'm probably below zero now to 60. Probably.

mines a screw on lever assy

Tip:

Grub screws WILL vibrate loose - loctite them!

From one who knows.....and who subsequently had to buy new grub screws.

Mines just screws on and no matter how hand tight it slackens off and spins, grubs screws would be much better imho.
