If so - did you use your own VIN or one assigned by the DVLA?
They are saying that for a Q, I need to grind off the factory stamped numbers (on my brand new chassis from Westfield) and use ones they will
assign!
Anyone shed some light on this?
I am now changing to an age related plan of attack, with reg process on hold - I think I have enough donor bits and (thankfully) still have the donor
V5.
Got a Q reg last year and dvla supplied the chassis number before iva.
Worth contacting Westfield I would have thought.
hello mate,
do westfield offer the service of producing a letter of newness? this is what i had from my car manufacturer, then offered a receipt for a
reconditioned engine. i got a brand new 15 Plate reg.
Cheers
Adam
Can't do a new plate now - as the application is in and if I suddenly "buy" a new gearbox and refurb the engine to "as new",
then I need a new IVA as the vehicle will not be what its was (this is what DVLA said to me ten mins ago).
I applied with a Q in mind, so didn't bother telling them about the donor I used (for my Sierra SDV version of a Westy) - so now when I say
"yes, but I DO have a donor" they think I'm trying it on no doubt.
Just can't believe they want me to ruin my bloody new chassis and make my car appear to be a ringer!
Rang Westfield, but the guy who knows is on holiday - just my luck!
Where was your IVA test centre - Newcastle?
Neil - yes, Newcastle.
It's utter madness. They are asking me to damage my chassis so I can stamp in a number that will not match the VIN on the IVA cert - and one that
will mean that I 'technically' no longer have a Westfield (the factory wouldn't recognise the number).
Absolutely astonished and might have to go through IVA again but with some "new" bits added to avoid it!
I had a similar problem, they had misread the documentation I had sent them and assumed I wanted a Q and not age related. They then told me I needed
to remove all traces of the original VIN and apply for a new DVLA allocated VIN. I asked them to re-read the cover note, dictated it over the phone to
them and even emailed them a copy and they still insisted. I got lucky and spoke to a lady who said they were wrong and that wasn't the case even
with a Q and it finally got sorted.
The place is an utter farce.
I spoke to Ruth at GBS a few days ago and they are still assigning their own numbers to the chassis without any issues, I would have thought the same applies to Westfield

Oh no, gutted you've got more delays Chris
dug had the same issue with his, had to remove MK chassis number and put DVLA one on, luckily for him he got it when his chassis was still bare.
No fekin way am I taking a grinder to my chassis - I'll go Al Kaieda on their ass before that happens...
Is it easily accessible?
What do Westfield do, stamp a plate then weld that to chassis, or stamp straight into box section?
Stamped very deeply into the box section. Grinding it out will almost certainly damage the chassis - it's just insane.
Have to stamp a plate, then weld it on over the Westfield number?
Not going to happen mate - I'd then not have a Westfield, just a car that looked like one! The VIN identifies the type and year, so is important
to us Westy owner snobbish types
But seriously, if I had built my own chassis, then it would be an inconvenience - but I'm not paying Westy money and ending up with a car that
looks like a dodgy ringer.
I agree stamp a plate and cover up the westfield number they told me to come up with a number and i did and sent it to them they confirmed it was ok so stamped it on the chassis did iva then sent all paper work off they then told me i have to get a reputable garage to stamp on a new number they sent but when the v5 came it had the original number on it so makes a farce of it all i now have another legit chassis number i could put on anything i steal complete donnuts.
I nearly had a similar problem.
Stupidly I wrote and asked if my Fury chassis number was ok after some comments on this forum.
I got a letter with a new chassis number. The quoted reason why was because they had no record of my number in there database.
Of course there was not as it was supplied by BGH who supplied the chassis.
I phoned the number on the letter and the person who sent the letter was off that day.
The person I spoke to asked other people in the department what should be done.
When they understood that the number was supplied with a recognised kit car supplier they told me to ignore the letter and carry on with the IVA
process.
They said they would inform the person who sent the letter to improve their knowledge.....
On the road now. No problems with registration.
This really is nonsense though.
I'd suggest that if you build a locost, then just use Caterham front wishbones and put Caterham on the application then when you sell it for 5-10
times what it's worth tell the new owner that the reason it's not got a genuine Caterham VIN is because the DVLA insisted you grind it off
and stamp it up with theirs!
Well, I stuck to my guns and they have agreed to let me keep the Westfield Chassis Number - how kind.
I now have a Q and a non DVLA VIN, so don't let them tell you it can't happen!
Good outcome. Sounds like utter balls, just another day at the DVLA. FWIW I got a Q last august with the factory-supplied VIN.
Glad you got it sorted in the end mate.
Cheers
Adam
Yeah - just waiting on confirmation it's actually taxed so i can get out!
Went for my fist legal drive at the weekend great feeling.
Enjoy
Adam

Nice to see you got it sorted!!
What did you think of Newcastle IVA test center? I heard loads of bad press, but found it fine.
I need to get to the mouse but I'm always away with work. Next month I'm off so I try then!!
