Hey guys,

Just running into something that appears to only have one solution to, but I don't like it so I'll ask.

The upper harness (shoulder belts) go through the seat, and need to be mounted at shoulder height to avoid compression injuries. Thing is, that is about 5" above the tallest part of the chassis (excluding rollbar).
The only solution I can think of is to run a harness tube laterally across the rollbar. I don't like this because: heavy tube, may be too close to the seat, ugly, and reduces the strength of the rollbar.

The only other option would be to build brackets but those would be highly visible and ugly.

Any help? I will try to remember to get a picture tommorow to explain better if that's not clear enough.

My roll bar has evol;ved for exactly that reason. I tried putting my seat on the floor but everything was comprosmised just the get it through the sva. Wasn't happy with it so bit the bullet and did a crossmember with threaded inserts this week, its now painted and looks ok. (I'll try and get a picture on today) Just didn't fancy compacting my spine in a decent bump, my backs knackered enough as it is!!


And yes I do realise my roll bar is taller than normal Believe me there is logic behind its height

RichardK that's a tidy job. Have you/are you including some padding on the diagonal bar?

I was thinking of doing something similar - but using square tube on the main hoop with the diagonal going through it. I'd then weld the threaded inserts to the rear of the box (just like you do on the 1.5mm chassis tubes - although the rear box would be thicker steel and 2" wide)

I'll be sitting on the floor so shouldn't need the harness mounts so high.

Thanks for the input. I hadn't thought of running a tube between my down tubes. Not sure if I like it, or even if it's allowed but good to have another idea.

My harness tube would be a lot lower though. Probably only 3" above the chassis. Forgot my camera today.

For the padding make sure it's proper padding. It should be hard enough to hurt if you smack it. Otherwise when your head hits it at speed in a crash it won't do anything.
