Hey all,

I started to fit my seats the other day and hit a problem, My seat rails aren't long enough for both bolt holes to go through the straps on the chassis. Does it matter if the front set go through the chassis strap and the rear set of bolts go through the ally floor? I don't know if the SVA states that they must be fitted to the chassis or not.

If I fit them to the ally floor then I'll add an extra couple of rivits for the floor to the chassis strap for a bit more strength.

Your ideas please...

The red is obviously the chassis strap, Blue dots would be the bolts and the green dots are rivets.

hi mark, i think if you put spreader plates under the floor underneather the alu floor, it will spread the weight. i think i have read some where on here saying about that.

can someone else confime that?

Thanks, Any ideas on the size and thickness the plates need to be?

If the seat id mounted to the floor in any way, it make the floor a structural part of the chassis and the floor will need to me welded on?

Mine were bolted to the ally floor as there isn't anything else to bolt them too in the mnr
big penny washers both sides, they were fine @ sva.

ive made a square section out off 1"by 5mm thick plate welded it up good and strong so it bolted to the strong section off the car then bolted the seat sliders to that

Manual says spreader plates are required where the seats are bolted to none metalic part of the structure. So no, you don't need to be bolted to the chassis for sva if your floor is ally'.

I'd use spreader plates though and rivet the floor to the cross strap anyway.

excellent question, even for us because if it's good enough for your SVA or soon, IVA, then it's good enough for our provincial testers.

I used a long flat piece of steel under the floor and put the bolts through the both of them. I will assume that will be OK too.

I would say add straps to chassis rather than rely on just huge washers on an ali floor...quite a few sold and fitted and been through SVA even rear end shunts and no damage to oocupants or seats...pays to make the seats the way I do it seems...
