Seats and IVA
Triton - 8/3/09 at 10:15 PM

I have been asked quite a few times now if my seats meet the new IVA regs.
After trawling through the IVA draft on the tinterweb I can say "YES" my seats meet the new regs and If I could afford to do it, I would happily submit my seats for FIA testing which is far more involved than SVA/IVA but at £3000 per seat it's a bit steep....

Cheers,
Mark

Plus there would be the delay as well, as each seat had to go off to be tested.

Each model of seat tested is then covered for 2 years then needs replacing for FIA use and if in a shunt would have to come back to me to be checked but all that would mean a right royal hike in the price!

Have the seat regs changed for IVA then?

yes, they now require to have an ejection system fitted and a life raft, considering the garbage ones still fitted to some production cars I doubt they have any room to complain

Yes the seat regs have changed, but they are likely to change again by the final draft. Main change was to be the need for built in head rest and 800mm height above ref. Been changed again to 700mm to top with built in headrest or low seat and seperate head rest. Seats will need to be rigid and headrests padded. Gawd knows what final draft will be.

Hi

If you delve into FIA testing procedures. I do not think that any fibre glass seat of that sort would pass FIA testing. At the last meeting this was one of a few types that where mentioned as giving concern. Hence the FIA's recent upgrade in seats and the roll cage areas along side seats.

Cheers Matt

I have got the updated info from the FIA and from the testing house concerned and apart from the daft cost to do it I'm confident my seats would pass due the way they are made.

They are used in some mad off road buggies that don't require FIA certificate yet jump 10foot in the air, roll etc and no damage to seats......
