GRP Seat - Braced?
Worzey - 29/3/09 at 07:29 PM

Just fitting my new GRP seats and wondering if they need to be braced?

Due to my size the seat won't be resting on the back panel.

The seats do seem fairly sturdy and don't seem to flex. (weight - approx 4.5kgs).

I'm fitting runners so my wife can drive the car and this would make designing bracing difficult as it would also need to adjust.

How have you fitted yours?

Depends on which ones being used, mine don't but think the JK ones do as only a single skin.

I bought mine off ebay and the back has a single skin.the seat back is about
5 in from the rear panel and has needed no bracing at all.I find them to be very strong and dont flex much in use.

I can confirm that JK Composites seats need bracing as they are lighter because single skin. If you can flex the seat by hand it needs bracing, otherwise I would use it for a while and decide yourself.

I can confirm that Triton seats take a hefty chap without bracing

I have had my single layer grp seat braced because i want to do lots of track days, even 2 layer skins may need bracing if your pulling 2 g in corners
