Can these be mounted in the middle behind the seat or do they need to be on the far side of the car?

depends what there from, the G sensor will be calibrated to within 0.5of a degree from there standard installation and if it's not exactly the same they'll just lock on you

Securons seatbelts stated they can be mounted at a number of angles- might be worth a try.

If you're asking are they allowed to be fitted in the centre of the car with the storks to the outside then yes as thats how westfields are.

No, i meant in the centre of the seats (behind the driver/passenger).
