Recommend me a handbrake leaver
scoop - 29/7/10 at 10:13 AM

I've got, what seems like, the meter long Sierra handbrake fitted at the moment and want to replace this with a much shorter one. Has anyone done this swap already and what did you use?
Im thinking of the way its mounted and the connection to the cable itself.
Cheers.

Relatively smart Metro one from scrappy.

Welded the Metro adjustable length link rod to the Sierra one which attaches to the Sierra 'C' plate.

Hope that helps,
James

Metro handbrake = MGF handbrake!!!

I also have a 1990 Rover 400 handbrake if that is any use?

Mini levers are compact (both classic and BMW)
Think later classic mini ones are the same as Metro/MGF.

Classic Mini Linky

BMW MINI Linky

i just stripped the sierra handbrake down and chopped about 2 inches off it

works fine...

the mgf one is really stubby

How did you do that Dave? Presumably the end button still works?
Saw your car at Helmingham Hall by the way but couldn find you.

also got a metro one in mine.

just stripped it down and cut it

used some rivets to create an edge inside for the spring to work against. had to cut and rebend the wire inside that works the mechanism. drilled out the hinge pin and replaced with a nut/bolt to make this all easier

2.5 years on and still going strong

No metros or MGF's there today. Will have a float round some others and then give good old 1st choice a go. Cheers

My shortened Sierra lever has been in use for 6years or so with no problems, the advantage is it fits already
