Speedo cable modification

My cable is about 2 feet too long, Is it possible to cut the outer casing down then trim the inner cable?

Is the inner cable square all the way down it or only on the ends.

Many thanks

ends only.

can you not route it in a way to take up the slack?

failing that, check out speedy cables - will make you one to your spec.

2ft, over to the passenger side under the dash and back again?

Cut mine down used a wire straight crimp to join the inner, then sleeved the outer cut ends with thin wall steel tube and crimped this over the outer, works OK.

I cut down a sierra one and rejoined the outer just by pushing each half into a bit of rubber hose about 6 inches long and then secured with jubilee clips. It has been ok for the last 6 years.

Just remembered i used an escort cable for the inner as it was shorter than the Sierra one so just cut the outer to suit, the escort cable had a screw fitting for the gearbox so couldn't use that.
