Best way to clean seatbelts?
norfolkluego - 26/2/11 at 09:55 PM

My Sabelt harnesses have got really grubby over the winter, had to be trailered about a bit I suspect that's the main reason, what's the best way to clean them without weakening them?

IIRC, the recommended way to clean belts is to wipe them with a cloth/sponge & mild soapy water (i.e. a solution of one of those mild clothes-cleaning soap flakes).

Lay them out and presure wash them. Give them a soak in some vanish for a few hours. Havnt done this but its what I would try.

pressure wash them if you want them very clean-- i have done and they seem fine.

if your concerned about damaging them, i recall climbing rope having to be put in a bath of mild soapy water and left for the muck to come out.

its the same with NOMEX race overalls, i just bung them in the washer, im sure your not meant to cos the "residue" of the detergent affects the fire resistance? its only 30 sec anyway!
