Harness Help
g60_edge - 8/3/11 at 09:42 PM

Hi all,
Need some help with harnesses as I haven't had chance to research them yet but a potential good deal has come up.

Seen these for sale and they seem like a good deal. I don't know much about harnesses (too busy getting engine sorted!) and not sure if they are going to be any good for a locost.

Can anybody offer any advice or questions I can ask the seller to see if they are going to be suitable.
Can you buy hardware for the loops at the end? If so what do I need to buy?

Here's the ad description and photos:

Pair Schroth 4/5 Point Harnesses
Pair of new and unused black Schroth 4 point ASM harnesses. These are FIA valid until 2013, as per the labels, and are equipped with the RFR rotary buckle and lightweight hardware. The individual straps have a stitched in loop which are designed to fit with chassis / roll cage fastenings.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Do I cut the loops off then buy slides...
http://www.schrothracing.com/store/Competition/hardware/bar-slides#2478
and bolt in brackets...
http://www.schrothracing.com/store/Competition/hardware/bolt-in-hardware
and warp them something like this?
http://www.schrothracing.com/main/Media/lv4

Or am I completely missing the point

Thanks
Alex

Just buy harnesses with the correct ends? Those are no use to you I'd say at a guess, whatever the price.

Yeah, that's what I'm trying to work out, what ends do I need and how do all these harnesses work. Is it as extreme as cutting the loops off or is there a simple option to get these fitted.
These are £90 (which sounded a good price) but if it's a lot messing about, new parts and a compromised solution then like you say, best buying the right ones to start with.
Cheers

Safety first, buy the correct ones, Demon Tweeks sell new 'Caterham' ones for not much more than that with the correct fittings and I'm sure you can get them cheaper than DT.

Your life might depend on them one day, don't cut corners, save money somewhere else.

As above, too much hassle to use them. Get new if your after FIA or eBay secondhand if not. There's cheap new ones on eBay.

Thanks for the responses.
So do ones with the correct fittings have them stitched into the harness ends?

Yes. I doubt IVA would pass the wrap around ends you poste a link to. You need ones with either a bolt on end or a clip to go onto an eye bolt.
