Cobra Seats IVA

I bought a pair of cobra roadster 7 seats a while ago and they have sat in a box untill now.

Now I've fitted them to the car they look very short, so my big question is will they go through IVA as they are? (has anyone been through IVA with the same seats?)

If I need to mod what can I do? I don't want to/ can't afford to change the seats.





Height from the seat to top is 72cm

Don't know about IVA but my car and several that I know went through SVA with no problems with Cobra 7 seats. Beware there was some very poor copies being sold by a well known kit car maker a year or two ago. Just had a look at your piccies ,yours look genuine

Hi,

Your seats are about 33mm too low as the top of the seat should be 700mm from a 53mm thick reference piece. See IVA M1 Inspection Manual Section 15

If that's the case you could try taking out the bottom seat padding and mounting the seats directly on the floor. That's what I had to do for my Intatrims.

It may be fine if you take the measurement as per the manual (136mm forward of base of seat back) - don't start chopping foam out until you've checked it properly!

I will have a proper measure up with regard to the heights in the manual.
The back of the seat base raises up quite a bit so there may be some refoaming required to meet requirements.

Oops! Never heard of people having problems because the seats were too low - the problem I had was the the seat was too high relative to the upper harness mounts. Sorry!

The IVA manual states:
"Where optional headrests are fitted to seats other than outboard front seats, the height of the top of the head restraint above the R point must be at least 700mm (see Annex 1) taking into account note 5."
(note 5 is about adjustable head rests).
If you re-measure as in the below image you may be alright, otherwise you'll need to remove some of the padding on the seat base.

Will just add this too:
"Seat reference point is measured with the seat in its rearmost and lowest position as well as:
a.
In the case of a seat with an adjustable back rest, the measurements should be made with the seat back rest adjusted to an angle of 25°, with the assessment tool being parallel to the centre line of the seat back rest
b.
In the case of a seat with a fixed back rest, the assessment tool being parallel to the centre line of the seat back rest up to a maximum of 25° (irrespective if the fixed seat back is inclined more than 25°)."
