I'm looking to redo my interior and I really like the smart transmission tunnel cover that caterham use.

Does anyone know someone who could make one of these for less than £300 caterham want?

Thinking about changing the bike clocks for a digidash too to make it easier to see when driving.

Besides, the chances of the dimensions of either that or any other manufacturer fitting well is slim.

I'm not going to manage to make something like that... If I gave someone the specs is there anyone that can fabricate it?

Don't under-sell yourself! Think about what you want, do some searches on here and the internet, and GO FOR IT! It's suprising what you can do when you put your mind to it. I didn't know whether I would have the skills to build a Kit Car, and I've just finished a scratch-build Locost so anything is possible

Before getting my kit I had never done more than an oil service and change a coil spring. I bought a car I though would only need carb and exhaust bolting in to get running. I've since learnt to weld, chaned an engine, learnt to set sparktiming, replaced brake lines, bled brakes, and much more!

My philosophy on it is give it a go, learn from your mistakes and try gain until its right. working out ok so far and if I'm very lucky might get it to move out the garage and stop under its own power this weekend!

It could be failry straight forward, if you dont fancy GRP (which is a little more specialist and messy), just get some light weight wood in a length to suit the tunnel sections, shape it to a curve, under size it by about 3-5mm then get some foam and vinyl from uphoulstry(sp) shop and glue and tack it round the wood. velcro or glue that to the ally tunnel top.

Thanks for the replies. I just want it to look professional and I'm good at building cars but struggle with the fiddly bits.

Does anyone know of a good guide to use to make something like that? I've seem them do it on American hotrod and they make it look easy!

The front part should be easy. For the part behind the brake handle, you could make 2-3 shaped cross-section ribs, cut out in the middle if necessary for cables, etc., (so you end up with upside down U thingies) then wrap either thin plywood or ali over the top and fix with a few dome headed screws. Cover with foam and vinyl as necessary

i have no real skills except those i have learnt building the indy. I made these doors from scratch.. mould, fibre glass, foam and vinyl and im pleases with the looks.

i've also altered some seats to fit and they look all right too and im working to finish a hood.

the caterham item looks DIY do able so give it a go you might suprise yourself.

the reason people want you to try yourself is that this sort of thing is very rewarding compared to a lot of jobs you end up doing on a kit car. go for it and post your results
