knob trouble
swanny - 26/6/12 at 07:16 PM

hello all,

i have an annoying problem.

the knob in my kit car vibrates and drives me mad at motorway speeds. with an upcoming trip to le mans i need to sort it properly.

can anyone tell me how to get the bl**dy thing off?

i was expecting to see a screw of some sort around the botton but there is nothing to show how it attaches.

the bottom collar doesnt move up or down and there is no sign of any sort of locking mechanism in the very small gap between the collar and the leather covered top part.

i can see that the reason for the noise is that it is able to rotate by about a degree or so.

can anyone help?
its either that or gaffer tape the lot up tight!

Paul

The silver collar will screw off (down) and then there will be some small grub screws holding it on the shaft.

I was going to suggest the clap clinic

You may find that the plastic saddle clip at the bottom of the lever is worn and that is adding to the rattle.

The free solution is to let go between shifts

I was taught not to hold on to it between shifts to avoid undue wear on the linkages, bit like riding the clutch.

Yep i reckon Thats the one. I had a momo that looks the same as that. It was very tight to undo.

It's fine when you hold it, only way I could cope with it today was to gently lean my left knee on it to stop the rattling!
