acoustic panels/foam

has anyone used acoustic panels, foam in the engine bay to reduce noise? what did you use? has it been effective?

looking at all possible ways to reduce static noise test at 3/4 revs.

Cheers

Are you talking IVA or race track?
If IVA it's only the exhaust that figures
If its a track then an air box is what reduces under bonnet noise
Paneling the engine bay would also keep the heat in
A lot

It has been done in order to get cars through the noise test. The test is done at the exhaust but it still picks up other noise and a bonnet and side panels are pretty big sound boards for induction and engine noise. Several people have got through the test that way. Even if it only accounts for one Db it could be the difference between a pass and fail.

The additional heat retention and fire risk should be taken into account though.
