Different seatbelts in the same car?

Just a quick one here, it occurred to me that my daughter (or son when he's old enough) will likely be the most common passenger, but she's not going to want to bother with a 4 point harness. Me as the driver will get one, but is there a problem with the passenger just being the donor's inertia 3 point belt? The donor is likely to be an MX5 if that helps?

I can't see them being different is going to be an issue, but I just thought I'd check

Edit: as a follow up, could the passenger ALSO have a 4 point belt for trackdays? Or am I asking for trouble by having two lots of belts for one seat?

If it was me I'd:
Build the car with what ever is more likely to pass the IVA so that may well be 'normal' seat belts but put in place the chassis fixings for the harnesses. These fixings could be covered with siutable plastic plugs with the correct radius and thus not causing IVA issues, but available for use once registered and on the road.

(with kids) in a car like these, safety first, 4 point minimum for me imo.
these things shouldn't be a case of 'not wanting to bother' putting it on, if she's in the car, she'll have to put it on.

Ah, that's an idea. Does it matter to Mr IVA that there are fixings but no belts?

Blake, that's kind of why I added the 'extra 4 point', even when I was typing it my mind was thinking safety over convenience.

Believe it or not in the Province of Ontario you can be ticketed for removing the 3 point and replacing it with a 4 or 6 point harness.
As a former police officer and racer I told them they were not using their respective mellons, the response was the Canadian Government mandated 3 point harnesses and you will not remove them from the car and operate it on public raods.

For the passenger you could use a three point harness and purchase one of these little gizmos.

I used one on the driver's side on my last track-day and it worked well.
Saves having to swop belts over and TBH three points are a lot more comfortable if going any distance.

However, if the car has 4 point belts to begin with, it ought to be OK. I actually have 6 point harnesses in my 7-alike, but was told by the provincial inspector that they are expressly VERBOTEN, so I never hook them up except at autocross. Of course, they won't be used for another 6 bloody months, thanks to this incessant winter thing that happens every year where I live. 5 more years til back on the Coast!!
