6-Point Harness Mounting
scootz - 22/10/15 at 06:15 PM

Evening all!

I have a set of 6-point harnesses with snap-in fixings in a Se7en..

Currently each of my lap-belts shares an eyelet-bolt with the corresponding side crotch-strap.

Apparently not ideal according to some sources, but I'm struggling to get a suitable lower-rear mounting for the crotch straps.

I have a further problem though which I was looking for a steer on. Once fitted, I can't move the seats forward due to the lap-belt adjuster getting stuck between the seat-side and the interior panel.

So, I was wondering if I could use something like the bracket in this pic to extend the lap-belts, but instead of the hex-bolt pictured, I'd retain the eyelet-bolt to attach the crotch-strap to.

Am I pushing my luck?

If it's a go-er, then what thickness of plate would you recommend for making the extension-bracket with (bearing in mind that I will need to retain sufficient thread engagement for the eyelet-bolt).?

Cheers

I would suggest that you have the wrong belts. You need a set which adjusts from the buckle (ie pull away from the buckle) and not pull up from the mount.

I would also suggest changing belts would be safer than what you have suggest. Schroth (and others) do the correct belts for a Seven.

Cheers Jeff.

I've always preferred 'pull-up' lap-belts in a Seven due to the lack of space.

The bracket in the pic is a Schroth part designed for the purpose described. I'd use it and not give it a second thought if I could secure the crotch-straps separately on a lower-rear chassis cross-member.

My only real concern was securing such a bracket under an eyelet bolt.

I always prefer pull away for the very same reason lol...

Do you need the crotch straps?
I use them in the single seaters but never did in the 7!
Ps you don't want a 6" run-up to the crotch strap if you do have a bump.so make sure they are mounted correctly Or it'll be bye bye gonads

I'm paranoid about submarining Dan... and my gonads don't get used for much these days!

I wouldn't mind submarining Dan. He's a good looking bloke.

I think this is what you are looking for. See P39

And I think this is not what you are looking for. Warning graphic photos!!

My crotch straps are connected to the floor under the seat with the normal eyebolts and a spreader plate under the floor. Given the limitation of a Seven type car this was the best we could come up with while matching the Schroth requirements above.

Cheers guys... I've ordered a set of pull-downs to keep things simple. Will see how I get on with them.

If you get the Schroth Flexi straps you can change them round if you don't like it.
