Guys, trying to source the harness from hell.
Does a FIA approval marking mean a harness is legal in the uk for road use (ie will pass SVA)? The guy in the shop thought it had to be 'e'
marked.
Nope, it needs to be E marked. Silly I know
Just reading the SVA manual and it says....
E mark or BS mark or ....
a specification marking which (in association with documentation where necessary) demonstrates that the belt satisfies the requirements of a european
standard corresponding to any of the british standards for a seat belt for use by an adult as reffered to in regulation 47 of the road vehicles (C
& U) regulations
OR
have equivalent characteristics to that of a belt approved for the same category vehicle...blah blah blah
So ..... it doesn't even need to be FIA, just look the business then ?
As far as I can tell, the main point is whether it can be undone with one easy and obvious action. With my E-marked harness, there's one big red
button to push. Other racing harnesses have a great big lever to twist in the middle of the buckle.
Apparently it's all down to rescue services knowing how to get you out of the harness quickly and safely.
Disclaimer: personal opinion - no evidence to support, etc.

Well unless some one comes forward and says "they've got through SVA with a FIA harness". I'm going to try and phone a couple of test centres and see what they say.
