Dash Bottom radius
NS Dev - 10/5/05 at 07:32 AM

As usual I am just toying around with ideas. I was going to just buy a carbon dash from ian gray at STM, (the easiest and best option no doubt!) but I want a slightly different dash to his std one (not much, but I want the radiused bit to come down the sides to the bottom of the scuttle at the edges, which the std one doesn't.

So, firstly, if I make a dash in alloy (and then paint it matt black or anodize it black) any ideas on radiusing the bottom edge? beat around an appropriate piece of bar??? How far round does the radius need to go?

Second, if I were to mould my own carbon dash, any suggestions on an easy and quick way to mould the radius?

best thing to do if making one out of ali would be to make a hardwood former first, this way you can make the dash the right shape and tinker with it before bashing the ali, next step would be to radii the bottom edge the using the holes were the gauges will be secure the ali to the former with some bolts then beat over like normal. Used this method a few times at work making complex curves and stuff,

Hope this helps
Chris

I beleive the radius should be a minimum of 19mm.

I have been thinking on similar lines --
I think Block board should be ok for the buck -- I intend make the bucks bottom radius from a 40 or 50mn dia round bit of wood chopped down the centre --- might not be cheap from the DIY sheds so I am looking around for a bit salavaged wood to use.

I am looking to use one of these carbon effect abs dasboards from ESP.

Carbon Effect Dash

At £50 they appear to be good value and have the correct radius and will fit an Indy scuttle, with the bits that come down at the sides.

I think they are also available from MNR?

ahhh, now that looks like it might do the trick! What is the width though, my only worry is buying something that then doesn't fit!

Their advert in Totalkitcar has a dimension of 985mm between the two verticals, which is exactly the distance on my MK scuttle.

I've tried to scan the image in and post a pic but it won't work.

Fixed it?

Sorry Mike

Darren also does the carbon effect plastic dashes. But his have the pods for instruments and bright6 module. All depends what you want i guess. (not sure about fitment into MK stuff though)

That's just it, I want a flat dash as I don't like "busy" dashes and won't be having any instruments on mine (just "need to know" lights)
