Expanding Foam Race Seat

I have searched and I see several trhreads talking about links to a description of the best procedures for doing a race seat out of expanding foam. I can't however see any actual links.

Are there a couple of descriptions or DIY guides to doing this in the best way possible?

I haven't got the link to any site but I know of a couple of ways of doing them. The first is a two part mix which you put into a bag and sit in or you can use a couple of cans from b+q. I think both would require some sort of frame to give it some strength.

When we've made them we made the rough shape from a ply construction, then put on a bin bag and sat in it and filled the remaining space with epanding foam. Then cover it with what ever takes your fancy. Gaffer tape, carpet underlay etc...

theres a guide in PPC magazine as part of their fury build.

something along the lines of using a binbag, filled with expanding foam, and letting it set a little bit so its a little bit firm.
then sit in it, but hang on to something so its not all your weight on the foam (which would squeeze it all out.)

i'll try and scan it in later on. (or maybe someone else can if theyve got it)

Do they really need a frame for strength. So long as the foam seat is secure in the car to expansion sort of locking it in, surely the harness gives you the security and the foam is just there to hold you comfortably.

If you could scan it that would be great. Tips like not sitting fully on it are key as I was wondering why when you sat down it wouldn't just push all the foam out from under you.

when I do my foam seats I plan to use some polyurethane foam sheet (camping matting) in the seat base to help stop the base thinning too much.

Who gave you that idea then?

Supposidly thick neoprene diving suit material is supposed to be good .... just haven't a clue where i can get some cheap.

In a race car, If the seat is done in place, is there any need to secure it or will it just expand to fill the space and lock itself into the car?
