my handbrake cover is the rigid plastic standard one. I bought a new leather gaiter for it-
how do i get the standard handle and plastic guard off?
it doesnt seem to have any fixings....
Pull and twist, put some effort into it
I took a pipe wrench to mine - that shifted it
pull and twist what? the handle?
how do i get the plastic guard offt the lever?
Just to clarify - Are you removing the plastic sheath & button to fit an aftermarket one like this? [shield your eyes]
Rescued attachment handbrake.jpg
pull and twist the plastic hand grip bit on the handbrake lever / handle.
Its just a tight fit.
i clamped the lever in the vice, then used the open end of a biggish spanner and hammer to belt it off.
just a different approach, but yes, it's just a tight fit.

bling!!!
yeah, ive got the standard handle bit, which i need to remove
But
the rest of the lever is covered in a big plastic shroud, which im assuming i need to remove to fir my new leather gaiter?
[bodge mode] If you are really sure you don't want to refit the old cover, hacksaw down one side to loosen it and just wrench it off with a pair of pliers.
Its very tight, just pull and be careful
istr mine hinged on a plastic rivet, although that may have been one of the other handbrake levers i tried before settling on the p6 one.
either way, a big screwdriver, and a saw of some sort will shift it.

Is it possible to do similar to a Mk II escort handbrake handle?
I have the same problem. I would like to know if I remove the pastic rivet and cover, will this effect the mechanics of the lever?? (I will keep the
handle an button)..
Cheers
Dan
Where did you get the gaiter from?
got it at detilng, cant remember who from....
main question is - if i hack the plastic cover off, will it affect the operation/action...
