i just had the best idea!
robertst - 30/6/06 at 11:12 PM

it was like an epiphany:

earlier today, whilst picking up my smart from the dealers after having it serviced i was browsing the different models (i.e: the fortwo and the roadster).
i have a forfour btw.

after a while i said to myself: hey isnt this smart roadster a bit small? it kinda reminds me of the seven! pretty low and probably a few inches wider, but the seats could work a treat on a locost!

i then gathered up some courage to ask the receptionist for a measuring tape... luckily she did have one and while waiting for my car i measured the fortwo's seat against the roadster's and they are exactly the same... actyually the forfour's seats are wider.

so it now is really a matter of paying a visit to the scrappies and get a pair! i've seen a couple of fortwos in my local scrappies!

so is that a good idea or what?!!!

what do you think?

there ya go!!

isnt google getting a bit shite or is it just me

alister667 - 1/7/06 at 12:22 AM

Obvious downside is that they look like they're fabric and would soak up (and retain) water like a sponge! Most sevens seats are vinyl covered or fibreglass. Still if it's absolutely, definitely only for use in the dry, and they're cheap enough.....

robertst - 1/7/06 at 12:36 AM

will probably spend the extra dosh making covers for "wet" or everyday conditions but i know it will be extremely unlikely i will be driving it on wet conditions (have the tintop for that). plus it rains very little in spain...

Humbug - 1/7/06 at 07:15 AM

So how wide exactly are the seats?

smart51 - 1/7/06 at 08:21 AM

The smart crossblade (no windcreen roof or doors) has the same seats but trimmed in rubber. Kinky and waterproof.

Some roadsters came with leather seats, if that's any better.

And they sold 16 of them in the UK so they will be easy to get hold of

robertst - 1/7/06 at 12:49 PM

in the long run (hate to say that) they would be upholstered with something else...

according to the ebay link, the width across the runners is 40cm...

Correct, the g/fs are heated too.

I was going to post that but didn't because I thought it might be considered a bit cheeky.

sorry... am not getting any of this.... is it becuase i said "in spain" rather than "on spain"?

Marcus - 2/7/06 at 08:13 PM

The only downside to the Smart seats is the weight. They're bloody heavy! I considered using these - we've got a Fortwo - but with the tilting mechanism, steel frame and heavy fibreglass back, they were discounted early on in the build (plus my wife would'nt let me try them for size without replacing them with leather!)

They are referring to some prehistoric culture thing called “My Fair Lady”. We are talking waaaaaaaaaay back, even BEFOR the Rolling Stones

locostv8 - 3/7/06 at 02:33 AM

Way before my time.
hehe

locostv8 - 3/7/06 at 02:36 AM

I'm using 914 seats.

Peteff - 3/7/06 at 07:30 AM

That's a lot of seats .

Dutchman - 4/7/06 at 01:15 PM

so anybody have the dimension on smart seats ... PLZ post it if U have

ayoungman - 5/7/06 at 11:22 AM

Have you looked at the steering column and uj's. They also would be good for a locost. would just need to be lengthened.
