Hi all, i have a Sierra steering column without the lock/ignition keys, will the tumbler mechanism from another ford fit such as an escort/Fiesta/Granada?
Cheers guys.

Why bother? If I were doing it, I'd put the lock in the middle ish pf the dash ala moggie minors. Then add a push button start. Don't know what the sva man would say mind.

Barrels are common and IIRC a tad cheaper than £18 from the dealers plus if you have an old key you can build it up to fit that. The only change that ford made was between the two differnt types of key, blade kiy or pin type key.

I know i can take the tumbler out and a locksmith can make a key to fit but he will charge me £20 for the first key then £5 for every other so i figured if one from a Granada or something would fit then i can get one from a scrappy.

I fixed my bro in laws M reg Fiesta van and the lock looked identical to the one in my Sierra column. The switches looked same pinout as well. I used early Fiesta switches on my column as the horn was on the light stalk.

Trust me, get a tumbler set from ford (a good stores man will make up the set to your key for a pittance or free cos they do it all the time and it take seconds.) then just get a new key cut at any key cutting shop for a couple of quid.

I can make up lock sets and it generally takes me about two minutes including thinking time.

Or if you feel like doing it yourself and feel unsure then strip out your old one slowly and lay out the parts in order. the internal disc have numbers on them to reflect the gate value. (either numeric or notches). Then just rebuild in reverse order. Simple.

/are they the same tumblers as the door locks? I bought an Escort write off once which had been vandalised and the locks had been super glued. I dismantled them and cleaned them with acetone and they worked fine after. You can work out the code for the key from the flats on the peg type keys, a bit about it here.
