cheap handbrake/gearstick gaiters?

been looking at the usual culprits: europacarparts, car builder solutions and tifosi and you don't seem to be able to get a pair of gaiters with surrounds for under £50, am I missing something as I can't believe these bits are worth that much.

Not got a sewing machine or material so what are the other options or cheaper sources of suitable gaiters?

I have a cut down type 9 stick and a metro handbrake so only small really.

cheers,

Ned.

Ned!

Have you looked on Flea Bay? There's plenty of choice on there.

Look for people selling bits from jags, beemers, mercs etc

Don't need a sewing machine if you use a big needle , just take your time

For the gearshift I used a universal rubber cover for a steering rack (don't know the propper english name, sorry). Looks good (imo) in my very basic interior.

For the handbrake I used a universal cover for a CV. I asked for the biggest size they had (of some truck).

Both were easy to fit (both have the 'harmonica' design so with the gap in the alu having the same diameter as the thin part of the harmonica it stays in place without a problem. Both are soft rubber so no problem with SVA

Worked for me.

I second Mark Allanson's suggestion. My mk 7 Escort has leather or leather looking gaiters on the gearstick and handbrake. Get yourself down the scrappy and remind yourself that you're building a locost.

You will have a choice of thousands. They pull out and are removed very easily too.

Transit gear lever gaiter. Surround is ply covered in vinyl.

MGF roadster has a leather gaiter plus chrome surround. They do crop up in scrappy's, thats where mine came from Rescued attachment gear lever bezel2.JPG

There's something vaguely obscene about that - just can't quite put my finger on it ......
