A bit to cover the steering column hole
flak monkey - 25/5/07 at 06:55 PM

You know, the bit that goes on top of the footwells and upto the scuttle to cover the gaping hole left after you have notched out a bit for the column to go though.

Has anyone got one thats been swapped, or got some clever suggestion of how to make one, that isnt going to take me a month of hammering?

Locost solution? An empty syringe of PU adhesive cut and bent to fit - painted to finish.

Brilliant mango Thats the sort of trick I was after.

Will give it a go, sure I have a bit of scaffold pole at home to do it with too

So you clamped it down, laid the pipe in and gave it a whack with the jaws tapered, then flattened the wings back out?

This was our solution.

Obviously, you would need to source some 50mm dia aluminium tube. We might even have some left.

Here it is in place. Obviously, your engine bay will have far less space. And be heavier

All very clever, but Hellfire's gets my vote for neatness.

The other option would be to make it square rather than round, so a couple of bends in a sheet of ali and it's done.

Sneak up on an ally access tower with a hacksaw! Might even find some ally scaff in a scrappies.

no pics of me doing it I'm afraid as I just bent a piece of 1mm flat Ali round one of the vertical scaffolding poles that was my temporary car build structure!

then just bent the rim back out with pliers taking my time, prob took about 10-15mins all in and a bit of trimming!
