How to Mount Seat Subframes to the Chassis??
mattgriffiths2002 - 13/11/07 at 08:07 PM

Hi folks,

I am wondering how I should go about mounting my seat subframes to the chassis.

I have side mounted seats and the side mount brackets for them but how should I attach these to the chassis floor? Is it ok to just go through and mount straight to my steel floor or do they need to be supported with more box section or something for instance?

Pics of other peoples mounts would be handy,

Cheers,

Matt

SVA would like to see load spreading plates and probably a steel floor.
If you have an ally floor then it would probably be wise to have some steel cross members from the chassis to bolt the seats to.
Even if you have no concern about the safty aspect you really don't want the floor flexing and the seat moving about.
I have a flat stainless floor and have constructed a rectangular subframe under the floor that bolts to a rear and forward cross member, adds some weight but it wont move under enthusiastic driving.

I welded in a couple of 12x25mm section tubes across between the chassis rails and fixed the seats to them.
I didnt like the way the floor flexed when I rocked the top of the seat about.
Luego did have a piece of flat bar in there, but not where the seats mount.
Its dead solid now.
Only downside was it raised the seat by 12mm. Small price to pay.
You can just see them at the top of the Picture.
