seatbelt sva rules

Are there any regulations governing the type/age of seatbelts used - ie can you use second hand belts which are in good condition? Do you have to show any documentation (other than kite marks etc on the belts themselves)?
Cheers
Dave

belts need to be e-marked. You can use 2nd hand so long as they are in excellent condition (not that you would buy anything less i'm sure!!).

They also have to meet with requirements for height above the seat but thats more a function of the chassis mounting points related to the seat than the belts themselves.

BS markings are acceptable as well as e markings.

Paul - could I use the ones from my Sierra then? what are the requirements on height above seat? Anyone have a picture?

Its not as simple as a picture im afraid, you need to take measurements at a certain angle from the top of the seat cushion.

Its also dependant upon whether your seats have holes for the harnesses/seatbelt to go through.

Im sure someone will confirm what it is.

I made a simple jig to measure it,

I've never heard of anyone using them from the donor myself but would hazard a guess that you may struggle to fit the inertia reel belts into a typical se7en.

Most people go for 4 point harnesses. The car i am building at the moment are getting static 3 point belts for SVA and then probably changed for 4 point belts afterwards (its not mine)

That seems clear enough DaveFJ. I only ask as I am building ChrisG's version and wondering if the belt points on the roll bar could be in a different place (i.e. the chassis top rail).

Guess I need to buy some seats as well then

I used the inertia seat belts from the doner, as just a road runner, never to be used in anger, (well maayyybbeeee, sometimes). Not easy to get them to fit but it's possable. Dont know if I have any picks in my archive, I will have a look and let you know if there are. Ray
There is a picture about half way down the list headed "Roll Bar" shows the top mountings, the inertia units are in the boot, no pic's of them.

As far as Im aware, and of course I could be totally wrong, but here in Oz, to get a "clubbie" (as they call them) registered for the road, it needs a 3 point seat belt.

I checked my roll bar tonight, where my top seat belt mounts are.

At the moment my top mounts are 220mm from the centre of the seats.

I have checked other pictures on here of peoples belts and they look closer then 140mm from centre of seat.

I guess 3 point harness's are exempt? (I mean the harness that has one central top mount.

I think that the 140mm is for using an inertia real type, (as mine). Ray
