Hi All,
I'm in the process of removing my Sierra column switch gear onto my dash. The thing is I'm unsure what to do with cast aluminum (well I
think it's ali) column body. Can I just get rid and that's it? I say that because there's a bearing at the end of that ali column but
is it crucial to keep it?
What have other people done when they've removed there column switch gear?

I'm not 100% certain what you mean but if I'm understanding you right you want to romve the outer part of the column?? If you do that what's going to support it and allow it to rotate??
you cut off the ugly bits and keep hold of the bits that count.
As said above, chop off the ugly bits and then I tidied mine up on a linisher

How can I chop all the ugly bits off that and still have something half decent at the end?

Get out that hacksaw and file Davey boy and get chopping!!!

Stick it in a vice, or doorway jam if you don't have a vice and saw down the lower sticky-out bit (as it's photographed)

I don't suppose anybody feels like helping a poor metal cutting challenged person out do they?!?!

I knocked the casting off and tuned a new top mounting from ally to fit over the tube and take the top bearing (yes you need this) and my paddle
shift. Its held to the tube with 2 grub screws (and a tight fit).

Serious for one moment though. If I get all the lumpy bits off could someone on here turn the rest on a lathe so it's nice a smooth?

like Steve says just hack off the lumps and turn the rest in a lathe to clean up the rest
