Fitting Removable Panel
Guinness - 16/2/08 at 06:00 PM

I'm struggling to find a way of attaching the back of the rear undertray. At the front I have a bit of ally angle riveted to the chassis rail, so that the front edge of the diffuser is level with the ally floor. I plan to hold that edge on with a row of Dzus clips. Like these:

But at the back the return on the rear panel is at different angle to the diffuser. About 30 degrees:

So I need to find a fixing that can cope with this level of mis-alignment or another method of fixing it. Needs to be removable for access to fuel pump / filter / diff etc.

I thought about a piano hinge, but that won't be very easy to make removable, and I don't really want to see the hinge along the back of the car!

Suggestions gratefully received.

Cheers

What about using some dzus fasteners ?
You could make the brackets that hold the locating spring like a top hat but with one side shorter than the other.

yo dude...its not actually that easy at all is it?!

Im thinking at the moment, if you get a strip of ally and get me to put a nice clean bend in it of 30 degrees you could then pop rivet one side to the grp lip and rivnut the other side to ur diffuser?

Im about today if you need a hand? Might have some ally or stainless too?

Hmm dunno, how did hellfire do it?!

Thanks lads

I think I've sorted it. Dzus's ordered. Just got to head over to the B&Q for the angle.

Help!

I'm still stuck on this! I can't fix the angle as I planned, because of the rear chassis rails / petrol tank mounts etc!

Vinnie's sketches won't work either (without removing the boot box and fuel tank).

Mike , how i fitted mine was a simple and easy solution, the front edge of the diffuser slides into a folded strip the width of the car which is rivited to floor along the bottom of the rear bulkhead line, then on each side of the diffuser about 50 mm from the rear of the chassis i welded two tags one each side , fitted a riv nut into bottom chassis rail, and the rear is then bolted by one 6mm bolt each side, undo both bolts and slide the diffuser out in 2 mins, easy as, and no it dosnt vibrate or rattle , i would post a pic but car is 300ks away at the mo sorry
cheers Kaspa

Well I think I've finally sorted how I'm going to fit this diffuser.

On Friday I flew to Geneva, on Saturday I went to the Motorshow, and got inspiration:

Rear Diffuser 1
Rear Diffuser 1

It's a Gumpert Apollo. Looks like the diffuser passes it's load directly onto a suspension pick up point, via an adjustable fixing.

Sorry about leaving my expresso cup on the back of the chassis while I took the photo.

Anyway, stopped at my local chandlers this morning, picked up the bits, so should have it fitted tonight!
