Ready for the nice weather?!
ST_eely - 18/2/14 at 08:50 PM

Been messing on with the locost since october fixing all the niggles that caused me some grief after getting her running late last year. Who else has finished their "winter projects" and cant wait to get out into some warm sunshine and salt free roads?
Hoping to have mine taxed for the start of March, roll on the warmth!! So what has your work been for your kit?

jacko - 18/2/14 at 09:03 PM

No i haven't touched my car since last year apart from getting it ready for the winter [ antifreeze ] etc
I think i will have to start and get it ready soon

I wish.

Im busy with work
Started studying with OU
Have a 9month old child
and trying to get registered to the next level of my engineering institute.

I have money sitting in my account and a todo list. I dont have time.

Not going to sell it though!

Ill still get out on track days this year. I might just end up doing about 4 in 2 months at the end of the summer!

What work was involved in the pinto swap? Is it a complete ball ache?
Ill be looking at this as my next winter project I think.

Really easy - I took the complete wiring loom out (even the lights) and started the wiring from scratch.
I've got a Zetec engine mount in the garage if you need one (the near side).
It bolted up nicely to the type 9 and used the original gear box mounts.
You'll need a smaller alternator and something to hide the hole in the side panel, oh and a new fuel tank (or one with a return connection).
The polo rad was a massive £20 !
All in all, I can't wait to drive it. It starts on the button !

Well I'm glad I'm not the only one who has been braying away in the garage over the winter and neglecting loved ones /call of duty! Some good work being done by all.

@ barkalar - what sort of engine management are you running with the zetec ? Are you on bike throttle bodies or carbs?

My pinto is on twin 45's and as much as love the noise they make, they're pretty thirsty and are starting to cough and splutter due to their age.

@ Cadburys man I installed my acewell last year, great bit of kit that gets rid of loads of clutter on on the dash, only thing I can't quite figure is the fuel gauge/sender. I measured the resistance when the tank was empty and was getting around 75 ohms. The acewell only counts from 100 to 510 ohms so is always showing my tank as being empty.
Does anyone have any ideas about this?

This was the main reason for the engine swap - my pinto was on bike carbs too with a fast road kent cam, I reckon it did about 9 mpg it was crazy !
I've gone stock standard with the ECU and engine (except for a griffin plenum) I wanted something smooth for the road that will start on the very odd occasion we get a dry day.
If I decide I want some more power then I have the building blocks for something a bit nippy.
I've just spotted a duratec engine on eBay for £200. This would probably be better because the exhaust exits on the same side as the pinto.

40inches - 19/2/14 at 09:39 AM

My winter mod list is:
New TRT prop.
Diff.
Rebuilt drive shafts.
Reposition outer rear upper wishbone mounts.
Lift rear shocker bottom mounts.
Screen, wipers and heater.
Side screens and Half Hood.
Redesign of Dash.
Modify GRP seats and fit dual lap and diagonal seat belts, with clip in harnesses for track days.
Target for completion is end of March lol

Would be lovely to get out for a blast soon
Unfortunately we have to sell it.

MP3C - 19/2/14 at 11:19 AM

My winter list included a few modifications to the car, should have it all back together next month (Omega0684 has said he would help me in getting the engine back in so grateful for that help!)

New cylinder head for my 2.0ltr Pinto (Stage 3 ported, big valve with high torque cam, Wills rings and uprated parts)
Twin 45 Weber carbs
Lightweight flywheel (5kg)
Engine overall been cleaned and serviced with new parts.

Push button ignition
Rear diffuser (Still needs to be done)
Tidy up of engine bay
Vents for cooler engine bay
Toyo R888s (Next paycheck hopefully)

Then take it on a rolling road to get everything set up - should be finished next month! Can't wait!

Matt

Fitted 5 speed box and SS 4 into 1 system. Sounds easy but a lot of small problems to overcome including engine had to be 30mm further forward so engine mounts to adjust, bonnet to alter etc etc. Taxed again now so time to play!!!!

Bloody 'ell, you've been getting on with it since I last saw your car oop north. You'll be pleased to know I sorted out more wiring and the upper steering column last night front lights are all working as well.
I also got my gearshift sorted now, much more solid than before - its basically a gear lever pivoting underneath the steering column shroud within fingertip reach of the steering wheel. Good short positive throw with no play at all in any direction.

MP3C - 19/2/14 at 01:08 PM

Yup been busy! Had a lot of problems when doing it though, so had a lot of hold ups as well, but mostly all sorted now just going to finish off a few more bits and bobs while the weather isn't great

Glad you are getting yours back together - you have been too lazy while I have not been there! BTW I should be back for Easter again for a week or something so if you need a hand FINISHING IT OFF (I say that as I expect you to nearly have it completed by then ) I will be available, and if it's good weather I will bring the car back again and we can arrange a day to go around the lake districts amazing roads!

Matt

james h - 19/2/14 at 03:46 PM

Exactly. I'll be on it like a fibreglass bonnet.

AndyW - 19/2/14 at 04:16 PM

Can't wait. Winter mods was a very small list as only IVA'd and registered in October last year, but done the mods and want that tax back on it.

Want to get a load of miles on her before my drive to Le Mans in June

Hellfire - 19/2/14 at 10:48 PM

No winter modifications as such, just a head gasket replaced, valve clearances adjusted, new bonnet chopped about and fitted, and a bit of a spit and polish.....

Car has already been out the last couple of days for a few short blasts.
