The machinegun in my vid was made under a prototype license because a ban passed by the govt in the 80's banned production of any full-auto weapons except for military or law enforcement uses. It can never be sold except to military or police. I seem to recall that a corporation may be able to purchase them for their own use(security firms, etc.).

A pre-ban full-auto may be purchased (hideously expensive since the ban) with the purchase of a $200 USD one time tax stamp (per device) and a full FBI background check that takes about 3 months to complete this was regulated by the National Firearms Act in 1934. The NFA also regulates silencers and short barreled rifles in the same manner.

Unlike most of Europe, where it is considered polite to use a sound suppression device when shooting, in the US they are relegated to the tools of criminals. We can still buy handguns though, and the Assault Weapons Ban that was passed by Clinton just expired, so the evil looking semi-auto guns it covered can now be purchased again. The AWD contrary to popular belief, had nothing to do with machine guns.
