jamesg20 - 24/2/04 at 09:07 PM

hi all,
anyone tried mating a the v6 mondeo engine 2.5 v6 duratec with the sierra type 9?
if so whats the clutch arrangement / what parts are needed
cheers

I have read somewhere that the V6 Duratec shares the same bellhousing bolt pattern as the 4 pot Duratec. It might be worth giving Raceline a ring.

However, I wouldnt like to say how long a type 9 will last with *that* engine on the front of it.....

I believe all ford engines gearbox bolt pattern is the same-including the transverse ones too.

anyone considering the duratec should remember that the jag engine is the same bottom end so could be a head swap for the jag units for an upgrade

The jag unit is 4wd, hence not sure about the gearbox, think they're mounted transverse like the mondeo?

Hi All

SSC have started using the duratec V6 in there Stylus, i think they get them from Marcos or there supplier

They also do a supercharger kit for the 3.0 litre

The X-Type is a Mondeo (and has been pilloried here many times before.) The engine is indeed mounted like a Mondeo. As the previous generation Mondeo also provided a 4WD version, we can guess where the drivetrain layout originated from

Was that too cynical or did they indeed spend zillions re-inventing the wheel?

Cheers,

Neil.

I know that the Jag is being knocked on here, but is that because Jaguar have rebadged the Mondeo for up market sales, or is there something wrong with the engine?

The V6 Duratec is, from my experience a strong, torquey and powerful motor in std form. They are also extremely long lasting. I have had experience of only two cars with problems - both head gaskets at high mileages. (That would equate to about 1 Duratec fault to every 300 "K Series"!).

I was looking to do something with the now readily available and relatively cheap Duratec for kit cars. Who actually has experience of them being no good - and what is that experience?

Thanks.

Yes.

now correct me if I am wrong but..
Didn't Jaguar get all of fords finest together and ask for their help on the shell and engine etc.. and each gave their own bits if information, when it came to the gearbox they for some reason went to Land rover, and when landrover came up with something more akin to mud plugging Jaguar designed its own 4wd system. Now everyone slates the x type and I am not a major fan of them but it is a first for jaguar to break from the norm and hey give them some slack I say

Thankyou for your support Hippy, can I get off my soapbox now...

Metal Hippy - 29/2/04 at 12:51 PM

No.

Is the Duratec V6 the same as the Mada/Eunos KL/KE/K8 V6 from the 626/800/MX3?

If so, the MX5 forums claim it can't run north/south due to some sort of oiling problem - designed for east/west and tilted 14 degrees to front - apparently oil won't drain properly if turned round and mounted upright.

Anyone know if this is correct?

Different engine. The Duratec has chain driven cams, the Mazda has belt driven cams.

The Mazda has bottom end problems when pushed. If you saw the rods you would know why!
