I need to know what all the parts are that I need to convert GSXR 600 Carbs to fit onto my 2 litre zetec and also what electrical management to use. Is megasquirt a good way of going if so where can I purchase all the parts I need. Also do I need a custom manufold making for carbs.
You don't need a management sysem to run bike carbs, just a custom inlet manifold and throttle linkage system. Megasquirt is a fuel injection
device. You can convert carbs to throttle bodies if desired and go the whole injection route - a lot of people do it's up to you.
Marcus
You will need megajolt not squirt. This is to run the ignition so you can junk the standard ecu.this runs a standard edis 4 modual and your standard
coil pack to give you your spark with out a disttributor this site in the states has loads of info and sells kits ect
http://picasso.org/mjlj/index.jsp
as for the manifold either make one or bogg brothers do them £150 ish number is 01944 738234
Im putting r1 carbs (40mm) on to an 1800 zetec going to use the megajolt light jr .as for manifold ect ive still gott loads of work to do.If any body
nows of the manifolds for less, would like to no as ive not done mine yet...Ps get your self down the scrapie for your edis 4 as there getting harder
to find picked mine up on friday and dont forget the plug /wire that goes with it I picked up three for a £10 but thats about all he had.

Have a look at these

Jonno,
Those pics are for throttle bodies but illustrate the mounting very nicely. Neat job. Ive heard the angle of bike carbs is relatively critical for the
floats to work correctly.
MNR can do the manifolds. Ill be quizzing Mac#1 soon as well for their recommendations as i fancy this for my pinto.
Harvey - i have seen a dizzy mounted to home made bracket and belt driven off a pulley before as well. This is very much a compromise budget job as
mapping is not possible but offers another solution.
What are the best donors for the EDIS4 modules?
The best source I found was the mondeo with autamatic trasmision(manual does not have it) as it is mounted on the bulk head above the rocker box cover
and is out of the way of all the crap.
Also fitted to many fiesta/escorts and orions it is mounted on the inner near side wing just behind the head light..
Two 7mm bolts hold it on the mondeo
and two philips screws on the others.Very easy to spot as it says edis4 on them dont forget to take the plug and about 15cm of wire so you can splice
it into your new loom. Have seen them on ebay for less than a £10 but have no plug/wire. It took me 20 mins to harvest all three of mine with plugs
and cost me £10
Must-Must say edis 4 as there are other ignition moduals fitted to some models and they are mounted in the same place .Best bet have a look in the old
haynes manual..........
big-wasa,
If you get the edis4 of the cars above, can you then get the coil pack and sensor etc off any of the others or do they all need to be off the same
car? i assume the cars will be badged as Zetecs?
What did you do for the crank wheel? Are these easy to get off the donor or easier to buy new? (JJM reported the Ford part number is 1078767-£12.).
Is a TPS tequired or is this only for 3D mappable systems?
The coil pack can come from any zetec these are dead easy to get...If you are fitting this set up to a zetec ?,then you dont need a crank wheel as the
fly wheel already has it built in and the mount for the sensor is also cast in to the block...The crank wheel you refer to I beleive was fitted to the
sierra/granada dohc and for £12 I would by it new...........
The megajolt light jr set up uses a map sensor(Vacume from inlet manifold) But I have heard of this being modified to use a tps.......If you make any
head way please let me Know...I am working on the engine at the mo but have collected the carbs /edis 4 /coil pack/sensor ect already...regards warren
Thanks Warren,
I was given this link, it covers fitting the tps to the megajolt. http://www.cate1.co.uk/megajolt/index.php
Ive only just started looking into this but it looks very easy. Im considering it for my Pinto. It was originally an injected version so dizzy and amp
is no good. Instead of taking a step back, megajolt looks like a good improvement. Im just costing up right now, next step is to try and find out how
to order the kit.
Cheers,
Darren.
