GBS GRP seats vs MK e.t.c

I've noticed that GBS are doing GRP seats at £170 a set. The look quite nice and have re-enforced backs and use captive nuts for attachment.

What I'm confused by is that they are near 100 quid less than the MK ones. So is it a case of the MK ones being significantly better or just much higher markup.

I have the gbs ones, bought them second hand and they are wobbly due to the fact the reinforcing back is only bonded to the seats with sikaflex.

My friend has identical looking ones from triton and they are totally rigid in comparison, with the reinforcing backs glassed over with another skin onto the seat back itself, makes for a good seat, you can stand on them and use the headrest part to support your weight as you get in or out. The thickness of the seat is also increased as a result - this makes it heavier, but not really by that much. Have a good dump before you leave and you'll probably balance it out!

Visually they are almost identical but the totally glassed over ones are superior IMO. When my S/H ones have been trial fitted and I'm happy, I'm going to skin all of the rear of them to make them more like the other type.

Hope this helps

EDIT: haha ^^ what he said, as I was typing.

One more point, the base mount parts of mine lie the seat at such an angle that for me, the balance between reaching the pedals and being far enough away from the steering wheel was unachievable, I had to make subframes to tilt the seats further back, to the same angle as.......you've guessed it..........triton ones

1 of the 4 base mounts is also 5mm higher than the rest (due to the way they are moulded) meaning you'd have to use a spacer under this bolt hole on both seats. No biggy but a PITA nevertheless

If I had my money again....................

Thanks for the advice guys. I think its just a toss up between MK ones and Triton. I guess there is very little difference between the two?

There is a huge difference between Triton seats and the GBS and MK seats, Triton seats do not flex due to the way they are manufactured...nowt worse than a wobbly seat making it feel like you have a puncture...

But then I would say that wouldn't I cos my daughter and her partner make them....

Which ones would you recommend for an MK Indy? Would the wide ones go in and not have problems with the upper seat belt mounts (i.e. the seats don't become the point of load for the belts)? Given my size I'd rather go for the biggest I could get away with.

measure your space. the narrow Triton's are about 16" across. No room for seatbelt adjustments if necessary. My passenger has to be the size of my wife or smaller!

The wide seats fit the Mk Indy spot on...
