Rev Counter
I have a VDO rev counter fitted and as I finally got the engine running at the weekend I had a chance to check other things too.........like the rev
counter, which doesn't seem to work
There are 3 connections, one to earth, one to +12V and the third which has a ~ sign which I assumed is from the trigger to the points (i.e. -ve on the
coil)?
Nothing doing though so maybe I got it wrong.
Any ideas/suggestions?
Thanks guys.

Are you points or electronic ignition? a tach designed for points often wont work with electronic.
When you say coil -ve, you do mean the points side? which is how mine was wired before MJLJ.

Any chance of a bit of back ground to the tacho?
Is it new?
Has it ever worked?
Are there any small switches on the back - how are they set?
A lot of VDO tacho's are capable of sensing RPM from the alternator AC wave - which would tie in with the ~ symbol on the back.
Have a look HERE

Dave,
No history, I bought the guages as a job lot around 2 years ago IIRC so not really sure. Makes sense that the sinewave symbol could be for alternator
connection, I'll ave another look tonight and pop a piccy of the rear up on here.
