Advice on reupholstering leather seats

Hi everyone,

I was hoping someone could offer some advice. I have a Luego Velocity which was purchased in quite a poor state. I have already stripped it back to the chassis and removing patches of rust before I have it blasted and re-powder coated (or I may respray the chassis not decided yet, all money dependent).

I have 2 Cobra Roadster 7 seats, which have seen much better days. They really need some new foam and recovering. I am prepared to do the work myself but don't really know where to start or have any sewing skills for upholstery! Does anyone have any advice or tips for me. Or can people recommend anyone who does upholstery of kit car seats (preferably in the East Midlands area).

Many thanks,
Matt.

When I needed to do some deep buttoned upholstery work on my boat, I went to the local library, they had masses of books on upholstery. May be your way foreword, and much cheeper than going to a specialist. HTH Ray

Probably not that cost effective to have roadsters re-done, compared with new.
The insides arent the best quality so you may end up with just the frame and all the rest needing replacing
I used an upholsterer in Hinckley and would recommend, but I'd expect there's one nearer

Edited to add having rebuilt one of mine I wouldnt even think about trying youself

Thanks for the speedy replies guys.

I thought a lot of the existing materials would need replacing. Could possibly still be less expensive than buying new ones.

I will do a bit of research on doing it myself and try and get a few quotes on prices for having it done professionally.

id agree, bide your time a bit, get a favouriute search set up on ebay, scour this board and others and a cheap pair will come up. i paid just over 100 quid for a cracking pair of barely used ones a while back on here.

You could borrow my industrial sewing machine and teach yourself to sew. I'm sure there's plenty of room for it in your workshop
