type 9 speedo cable what do people use ?????
hi there 
what speedo cables do people use in there type 9 gearbox kitcars ? is a mk2 escort cable the norm ???

I used the cable from my mk2 Escort donor. The main problem is routing it from the gearbox. I don't know how much room there is in the tunnel of
the Striker but if it's the same as a locost then it is not much. You can buy an angle drive for about £60, but I drilled a hole in the side
panel of the tunnel and ran the cable across the footwell and up over the steering column.

I went to a marine control cable company, handed them my donor car cable (Sierra) and told them to shorten it. Cost £9. I have a type 9 in a Haynes
Roadster and it was a squeeze to get it to snake through the tunnel. But its clipped in place and its been OK. A ninety degree angle adapter would
be the best route, but they seem a little pricy.

Screw converter out of the gearbox with a transducer attached wired to an ETB electronic speedo.
Seems to be my night for searching...

I got Speedy Cables to make one up for me as it was going to a rescued Smiths speedo and the end was different to the Ford one. I also used a 90deg
adapter so the cable isd in the tunnel.
I'm addicted to brake fluid, but I can stop anytime.

I use an electronic pick up via ecu from the diff bolts.
Track days ARE the best thing since sliced bread, until I get a supercharger that is!

+1 on the Electronic Pickup I had a Cable to Electronic adapter and it would jam up causing sorts of problems
changed to a pick up of the blot heads (+magnet) no problems since
Scot's do it better in Kilts.
MK INDY's Don't Self Centre Regardless of MK Setting !

Ford Anglia cable has the right end fitting for a Smiths speedo with the small size thread.
Other early 1960s Ford UK cables should also work eg Mk1 Cortina

One of them screw in adapters and an oem gearbox sensor off a IB5 fwd box.

I use an electronic transducer from speedy cables with a short cable from the mechanical drive on the gearbox. It is a pretty tight fit to get inside
the tunnel without over-bending the cable.
After only a few hundred miles the first cable I had came to pieces internally. Speedy cables replaced free of charge and have not had any problems
since with exact samne mounting arragnement as before.
If I was doing it again I would look to find a tranducer that replaced the drive in the gearbox rather that using the external transducer.
