Speedo
Hi all again, been away for about 10 years due to long term Family illness, got the Locost out last week and after a bit of churning it started ans
ran fine. Things have changed re IVA and am struggling to understand Speedo rules, Escort type 2 gearbox and original escort speedo, well known fault
is the cable leaving the gearbox hits the chassis with a tight bend, I see the burton Power 90 deg adaptor needs a new cable which I cant see how to
source, reading the IVA manual, I cant use a cycle computer.
I'm trying to get the car on the road and dont want to waste money on something that wont work.
Can someone answer/make suggestions for the following
how can I use the existing, where can I get a usable 90 adaptor.
How are the IVA rules interpreted on digital speedos, does the sensor need to go into the gearbox or can you put a magnetic type sensor on say the
propshaft, will say one of these be acceptable https://www.carbuilder.com/uk/daytona-68mm-speedo-satin-black and is this all I need to buy.

yes you can have a sensor on the prop, or axle/half shaft or wheel. there are some solutions making the original drive

m18 screw end cable, so a common size. But not a cheap option, looks like £130 or so for angle drive and cable.
My T9 is in my spitfire, same chassis issue. I used a Triumph etc angle drive, chopped it about and bodged it on. Been used now for about 40K so
obviously works OK (and T9 to spitfire speedo is within 1% accuracy at 110mph!)

I used the original speedo cable with a standard locost chassis and ford type 2 gearbox
Its a very fiddley job to fit if it does come off, and the bend is tight, but worked for me for 20 years
I always lubricated the inner cable with oil, to aid the bend,

Thanks for your input, using the existing would be great, yes it is a tight fit, did you clip it to the Bell housing so it was just clear of the
chassis.
