11" steering wheel

Hi gents, have just fitted an 11" mountney wheel but maybe stupidly had not thought of the extra effort required to turn this wheel compared to the original 15".
Has anyone opinion on whether this popular size wheel is actually too small and could it put unnecessary stress onto the column??
Mike.

hiya,

surely the force on the colum would just be the same

the force required to be put into the wheel to turn it would be increased

well thats my understanding of it all

Cheers

Is fine. I've been using an 11" wheel for a long time (as have loads of others).

Forces through the column are unchanged - a smaller diameter wheel means you need a larger force to move the wheels the same distance (can be proven through physics but can't be @r$ed).

A quick rack means you need even more extra muscles over a std one, but that's all.

Small Steering wheel + Quick Rack = More fun than going down the gym!

On the move it's not too bad and you will get used to it, the problem is fitting anything larger than a 12" will mean your legs get squashed.

Mike,

I also have had one of these wheels fitted for a while and didn't have any problem. The front suspension setup, rack friction and tyre pressures could influence the turning moment required and may be worth checking if the steering is uncomfortably heavy.

One of the best adjustments I have made was to reduce the powerplant mass. The steering is much lighter and responsive now, so maybe your engine upgrade should be brought forwards.

Cheers,

Colin
