MDF dash sealing / undercoating

My dash is MDF/wood. I want to paint it matt or satin black, what is the best way to seal/undercoat the MDF against the elements??

Any recommended products??

Why do they call Port Harcourt "The Garden City"?...... Becauase they can't spell Stramash.

I guess the back can be sealed with some polyurethane type varnish. Maybe also the edges. Would it be possible to seal it all over and then cover the front with vinyl. The foam backed type vinyl can make a very tidy job of dashes etc. Quite easy to do with a bit of spray adhesive and some staples in the back.
