Seats?

This question has probably been asked a hundred times on this forum, but.................

Are there any standard road cars that have seats that would fit into a standard Locost? If so, are they realistic options in terms of availability and style/looks?

Cheers

Basically no, not without a lot of hacking about and adapting. Nearest thing was something like Rascal seats but I don't think they were considered ideal. Standard seats are heavy with a lot of metal framing and adjustment you might not need in a Locost type car.

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

One more thing i would like to add to my initial posting. I am 6'4", which means that i need adjustment on the seat especially if anyone else is to drive the car.

If there are no standard road cars with suitable seats. Which specialist seats are best value for money at present and what are they likely to cost and where from?

MK do a nice Fibreglass seat - viewable on our website suitable for a guy of your size. Prices are available on the MK WEBSITE and are customizable to colour and finish (ie carbon fibre) They are very basic but deceivingly comfortable, practical and light.

Disclaimer: other manufacturers seats are also available Cobra do a very nice one - you pay your money and take your choice.

The MK one is viewable on our February Build Diary

This has definately been mentioned, but bus/minibus seats. On average about 15" wide and if you're gonna get them re-covered then you could do a lot worse. Some of the more modern coach seats split into two bits and look quite good. Asked at my local coach works and they wanted £40 per pair.

A bit of slapstick never hurt anyone.

As mentioned, Rascal/Midi seats fit, but you have to bend the inboard seat frame a little to clear the tranny tunnel, I have heard that Fiat 126 seats fit OK, I have measured X19 seats, and 'think' they would fit if you removed the tilting mechanism and welded the seat to the rake you prefer

If you can keep you head, whilst all others around you are losing theirs, you are not fully aware of the situation

Thanks guys, that gives me a few things to think about. I take it that if i used bus seats i could buy adjustable mountings/runners to fit to them to get over the main adjustment problem?

Cut the runners off your donor seats and fit them to your new ones. I used some Nova runners and adapted them to MK seat, gives about 100mm of adjustment forwards.
